Tag Tuesday: Fall in Love!
What's this? A midweek post?
Yes, friends, it is. I saw this tag on the blog StyleSista and of course I had to do it right this second. I love fall and it's the first day of October so I'm going to do a fall tag.
Also - I'm seriously considering making Tag Tuesdays a thing. What do you think about them?
1. What fall trend are you most excited for?
Fashion wise, I'm really feeling military jackets this season. I think they look so great with a chunky oversized sweater, a pair of leggings, and some combat boots. They're fun and they come in a lot of colors and can be styled in a ton of different ways. I'm loving this one from Old Navy and I'm hoping to get my hands on it soon.
Makeup wise I am all about the dark, plummy lip this year for the first time in my life. I finally found some colors that don't make me look like Elvira because while that look works for some people, it does not work for me. I'm obsessed with Plum Wine by Laura Mercier for a dramatic look and Craving by MAC for something a little more casual.
2. What is your favorite fall beauty product?
My favorite fall beauty product is actually nail polish. They're so easy to maintain when you just want to stay in bed and cuddle all day, as opposed to having to get up and put on a full face of makeup. I just ordered butter London (surprise surprise) The Old Bill and I'm already planning a nice fall manicure using it and Jaffa (and maybe British Racing Green, I haven't decided yet). Second would probably be mascara - but that's a year-round thing.
3. What is your favorite fall drink?
Hands down salted caramel mochas from Starbucks. They are my life. I know there's all sorts of hype around the pumpkin spice latte but I've tried it and I'm not at all a fan. I'll stick with my salted caramel mochas.
4. What is your favorite fall scent?
You know, I don't really have a fall fragrance? I wear mine year round. Taylor by Taylor Swift (more surprises) is probably the coziest of my fragrances because of the base notes - or actually Fresh Fig by Laura Mercier! That'll be getting a lot of use this fall. It has amazing staying power and I'm actually obsessed.
Candle-wise though it's all about Slatkin & Co.'s Sweater Weather. It's actually burning right now and I'm so obsessed.
5. Which fall trend do you hate?
I can't actually think of a fall trend I hate. Probably turtlenecks? I just don't think they're very flattering on 99% of people and I don't plan on jumping on this bandwagon. Actually most necks like that: cowl necks, mock neck - no thanks. I'll stick to my crew necks.
6. What is your Halloween Costume this year?
I'm probably not going to fully dress up because I'll be in school, but I plan on doing some fun stuff with my makeup! I'm thinking some sort full face skull - maybe a sugar skull? I have some pictures I saved from Pinterest that I might try. Either way, I'm excited!
7. What is your favorite fall song?
I am SO OBSESSED with "Sweater Weather" by The Neighbourhood. My love Caitlin of First Glance Feeling is going to see them soon and I'm so incredibly jealous (I couldn't go boooooo). I'm also feeling "Chocolate" by The 1975 and "Campus" by Vampire Weekend.
8. What is your favorite Halloween candy?
My favorite Halloween candy is the same as my favorite all year long candy - Reese's. Give me Reese's by the dozen and I'll be happy for life.
So, that's it! This was a lot of fun to think about and I hope you guys had fun reading it too. Please do it and link to it in the comments so I can read them because I think they're wonderful (and you're wonderful, too!).
As always, thanks for reading and I love you lots!
x Kristin

Favorite Fall Nail Polishes!
Okay, guys, I'm going to level with you - I had something different planned for today. I had a makeup tutorial written out step by step but no pictures or anything and was totally going to do that today but! I came home from an exam and promptly slept the afternoon away.
I know. I'm a disappointment.
The makeup tutorial will be coming at a later date! I'm thinking second week of October. Today, though, we're going to talk nail polishes - specifically, we're going to talk my favorite fall nail polishes, pictured above. Yes, they're all butter London. I have a huge problem with butter London, I swear! I bought my first three in the fall of last year and have never looked back. They're my favorite formula of any polish, and I've tried a lot of different brands.
Clockwise from the top, the shades are La Moss, Jaffa, Branwen's Feather, Shag, Yummy Mummy, and Pistol Pink. I actually struggled narrowing it down to just six; I've bought most of my favorite polishes of all time in ~fall colors but these are ones I've worn multiple times, with the exception of La Moss and Pistol Pink as they're new. (I'm totally painting my nails Pistol Pink as soon as I finish here, though.)
Now onto descriptions!
La Moss - The butter London site describes it as "a vampy deep, dark red nail lacquer full of red wine, just like its inspiration." It's definitely deep and dark and very out of my normal comfort zone, though I don't know if I'd consider it a wine red. It's definitely along the lines of an oxblood shade. It's what's on my nails right now; I brought it to my friend to do my nails (she's in beauty school) and she loved it so much she asked me to bring it to work for her to use. It's a really nice, typical fall shade that a lot of people can pull off.
Jaffa - Now, Jaffa was my go-to shade for quite a bit of summer. Luckily I think it'll carry into fall well because orange!!! The description on the site for it is: "a juicy, orange nail lacquer that's seedless, but potent as Hell." It's definitely bright - the brightest of the polishes I've chosen - but it's a nice change from a lot of the muted or dark colors that are usually featured in fall collections. It'll be great for doing pumpkin nail art once Halloween rolls around.
Branwen's Feather - I made a special trip to get Branwen's Feather last winter because it reminded me of something Stephanie Brown (of the Batfamily) would wear on her nails when she was Batgirl. Is that silly? I know it's not eggplant enough for her, but it's a great balance of black, purple, and sparkles - all wonderful things if you ask me. According to the site, the name (and shade) is inspired by the ravens that fly around the Tower of London at night. How cool is that?
Shag - Hands down my all time favorite nail polish shade. I wear this year round. I wore it all through fall and winter of last year and definitely plan on wearing it all through this year as well. Obsessed doesn't even cover it, okay. I think it's kind of a shimmery copper-burgundy. Butter London says it's an orange-burgundy metallic, so I'm not too far off! They also say it's reminiscent of autumn leaves, so that must be why it's my favorite. (That and the gorgeousness of it on the nail and the formulation and everything, basically.)
Yummy Mummy - First of all, how cute is this name? I love this name. This is a polish I saw mentioned a lot before I bought it, and I totally understand why. It's a gorgeous nude with a hint of shimmer. I think the shimmer has a bit of a blue tint to it, personally. I have trouble with nudes because I'm very, very fair so everything looks kind of weird on me but this is perfect.
Pistol Pink - Of course there's a pink on this list. It wouldn't be a list from me with no pink, let's be real here. Pistol Pink is what I picked up for my birthday polish, actually! It's a muted magenta polish with silver shimmer named after both The Sex Pistols and Pink Floyd. Definitely the perfect pink for fall and I'm so glad I picked it up because even though I would wear bright pink all year (of course I would) it's always nice to have something a little more muted and fall-like! Plus you can never have too many pink nail polishes. Seriously.
What are some of your favorite nail polishes for fall? I'm looking for some nice muted purples and dark dark blues so if you have any suggestions, let me know. :)
As always, thank you for reading and have a lovely weekend!
x Kristin
